Chapter 29: Marriage of Inconvenience

I served chai to the villagers who had assembled in the courtyard to meet my husband. "Aapne hamare devaro ko dekha?" I asked him softly while refilling his cup of tea.

(Did you see Bhargav and Keshav?)

"Andar kahi sad rahe honge," he muttered and turned his attention to the villagers.

(Must be rotting inside somewhere.)

Bhairav Ji and Bhargav still hadn't talked with each other. And considering he was leaving for the city this evening, I doubted whether they'd ever set aside their pride and talk to each other again. I went up to Keshav's room but found it empty. Then, I went near Bhargav's to find the youngest of the brothers peeking inside with a stupid grin on his face.

When Keshav spotted me, he signalled with his hand to be quiet before beckoning me near him. We pushed the door open a little more and peeked inside to find Bhargav lying on the bed. There was a photograph in his hand, and he kept staring at it without blinking.

"Nayi Bhabhi ki tasveer hai!" Keshav whispered while holding back his laugh.

(It's the new Bhabhi's photo!)

"Kya?" My eyes widened.

(What?)

Bhargav was holding the picture with his right hand. When it ached, he switched the picture to his left hand. He exhaled like a lost man every few minutes, making it harder for Keshav to hold back his laugh.

I had never imagined that the idiot would be this lovestruck for his betrothed.

"Shaadi karke jab ghar launga, aise devi ki rarah puja karunga... Ah..."

(When I marry you and bring you home, I'll worship you like my goddess... Ah...)

He rolled over and hugged his pillow.

Keshav cleared his throat, "Shaadi ke baad humse bhi puja karvaoge Bhaiya?"

(After you marry her, do we have to worship her too, Bhaiya?)

I couldn't hold in my laugh anymore. Bhargav's face was red with embarrassment as he scrambled to his feet and glared at us. Keshav sprinted towards his room and locked the door before Bhargav could catch him.

"Tameez naam ki cheez nahi hai? Kya kar rahe the tum log mere kamre ke bahar!" He snapped at me.

(Don't you have any manners? What were you idiots doing outside my room!)

"Mai sirf chai dene aayi thi," I raised the tray with a smile, "Aapko chai chahiye devar ji? Nahi chahiye toh koi baat nahi. Mai pee lungi. Aap wapas jaakar sapne dekh sakte hai."

(I only came to give chai. Do you want a cup, Devar Ji? It's fine if you say no. I'll drink it. You can go back to your daydreaming now.)

Bhargav gritted his teeth and shook his fist in my face, "Teri toh-"

(You little-)

"Shh," I narrowed my eyes at him, "Thakurain ko dhamki dene ki himmat? Aapke Bhaiya ko bulau? Agar maine aapki shikayat unse kar di, toh samajh lo sab khatam. Apni devi se shaadi karne ka sapna sirf sapna hi reh jaega. Shikayat karu?"

(Shh. Don't try to threaten the Thakurain. Should I call your Bhaiya? If I complain about you to him now, then all your dreams will crumble. You'll never get to marry your goddess. Should I call him?)

Bhargav swallowed his words and lowered his fist. He took the chai glass hesitantly while I went back to the kitchen to resume my chores.

In the evening, when he had to leave, Bhairav Ji only communicated with Keshav, who had the duty of relaying the same to Bhargav. My husband wouldn't talk to Bhargav directly. Maa tried everything possible to make them talk, but neither man even looked at the other.

"Kuch mahino mei shaadi karke Aradhya ko ghar launga, Dadi," my devar smiled and bent down to touch the elder's feet for blessings.

(I'll marry Aradhya in a few months and bring her home, Dadi.)

"Shaadi karke mere ghar mei toh nahi rahega," my husband said out loud.

(You can't stay in my house after getting married.)

"Sheher mei jaakar rahunga," Bhargav gritted his teeth.

(I'll live in the city.)

"Theek hai. Jab shaadi kar rahe ho toh mera makaan bhi khaali kar dena. Gopal, ise jaakar station chod aao," my husband instructed one of his men. Bhargav was about to react, but Keshav grabbed his arm, silently asking him to shut up and leave.

(Okay. When you get married, move out of my apartment as well. Gopal, go drop him off at the station.)

Soon the sun had sunk below the horizon, birds chirped happily as they returned home, and it was time for dinner. Maa was telling us about Aradhya and her family while my husband remained unusually quiet. I brushed my feet against his under the table to lighten the mood. He glanced at me, eyes dark and hungry. Despite being in a fit of rage, he definitely eyed me like dinner every time.

"Agar aap ek saal intezar karvaoge toh meri bhi abse rishte dekhna shuru karo, Bhaiya Ji," Keshav grinned at my husband, sensing the silence.

(If you're going to make me wait for a year as well, then please start looking for marriage proposals from now, Bhaiya Ji.)

"Pehle padhai khatam karo, phir sochte hai."

(First, complete your studies. We'll think about this later.)

Keshav rolled his eyes. Everyone laughed as his aversion towards studies was clear as day. Later that night, as I lay naked in bed after long hours of hard fucking, the silence felt unsettling. Bhairav Ji had his arm swung around my shoulder, a glass of whiskey in his hands, and the radio sang his favourite songs.

"Suniye..." I ran my hand over his stomach, hugging him fondly.

(Listen...)

"Aap phir kabhi Bhargav Bhaiya se baat nahi karoge?"

(Will you not talk to Bhargav Bhaiya ever again?)

He turned to look at me, eyes uninterested and drunk. "Use apna galti samajhne mei thoda waqt lagega. Uske baad woh khud mujhse aakar maafi bhi mangega."

(He'll take a while to realise his mistake... He'll come to me soon after that.)

I sighed. He and his pride.

"Bhargav ki baat chodo. Tumhe woh ladki pasand aayi? Aradhya naam tha shayad... Tumse ek saal badi hai."

(Forget about Bhargav. Did you like the world? Her name was Aradhya, I think... She's a year older than you.)

I hummed and hugged him tighter, "Aradhya bahut sundar hai. Maine aaj tak itni sundar ladki kabhi nahi dekhi."

(Aradhya is so pretty. I've never seen a girl as beautiful as her before.)

"Oh? Mai toh har roz dekhta hu..." He replied, staring into my eyes. I couldn't help blushing and smiling at the same time. Bhairav Ji kissed my forehead, "Ek saal ka nishchay tumhare baare mei bhi sochkar kiya tha."

(Oh? But I see one prettier every day...)

(I made the decision to hold the marriage for a year after thinking about you as well.)

"Mere baare mei?" I asked in surprise.

(Me?)

"Jab tum pet se ho, Shaadi ke taiyaari tum par bhaari pad jaegi. Isliye bache ka hone ke baad shaadi ke baare mei sochna, theek hai? Aur jab woh ladki aayegi, tumhare bhi kaam halka ho jaega. Ek dost bhi milegi."

(The wedding preparations will be too much to handle while you're pregnant. So we'll think about it after the child is born. And after the girl comes here, your work will also become easier.)

I couldn't believe that he had thought this ahead just for me. My arms wrapped around his neck, and I straddled him the next instant.

"Aap mujhse utna pyaar karte hai?" I teased my nose against his.

(Do you love me that much?)

He almost smiled, "Zaroor. Tum ise jo chaaho naam de do. Jab hamara bachcha paida hoga aur jab Aradhya ghar aa jaayegi, tum dono mein itni vyast ho jaogi. Mujhe tang karne toh kabhi nahi aaogi... Akhirkar tumse chutkara milega."

(Of course. You can call it what you like. When our baby is born, and when Aradhya comes home, you'll be very busy with both of them that you won't have any free time to bother me... I'll finally be at peace.)

I gasped. The brute! Was that his plan all along?

Bhairav Ji chuckled and took a sip of his whiskey, seeing the shock on my face.

"Aap... Aap kitne bure hai..." I squeezed his shoulders.

(You... You're the worst...)

"Ab pachtane se kya faida? Zindagi bhar ke liye meri rahogi."

(No use in regretting now. You're mine for the rest of your life.)

I glared at his stupid, smug face. Bhairav Ji ran his fingers over the swell of my breasts. He pinched my nipple just a little before caressing my baby bump.

"Maa ko hamesha vyast rakhan, mere nanhe shaitan. Baba ko bacha lo."

(Keep your mother always busy, my little devil. Save your father.)

"Aap ho shaitan..." I muttered.

(You are the devil...)

The look in his eyes didn't change as he eyed me. In fact, he seemed hungrier. Bhairav Ji placed his glass of whiskey on the bedside table and pushed me down on the mattress suddenly. I was panting as he restrained both my hands over my head.

"Aap yeh kya-" My eyes widened as he dipped his free hand in the whiskey.

(What are you-)

"Chup." He cut me off sharply.

(Shut.)

Bhairav Ji sprinkled the liquor all over my chest. The stench nearly made me gag, but he didn't care. He didn't just stop there, though. My husband fondled my entire torso until I was wet and sticky with whiskey. He looked quite satisfied with his achievement as he poured some of his drink over my stomach again, making me shiver.

"A-aah!" I moaned when he licked and kissed my navel. His tongue lapped up every drop that he had left on my skin. Honestly, it made me so incredibly aroused.

Bhairav Ji was all over me, biting and leaving damp kisses on my waist, twirling his tongue against my nipples, massaging my breasts, and giving me hickies nearly everywhere. I could feel my wetness soaking the sheets.

The night ended with him making me cry his name countless times. And by the time I woke up in the morning, the stench only made my morning sickness worse. Bhairav Ji was sleeping without a care in the world, though.

After showering, I was busy drying my hair in the mirror when he attacked me from behind. He snatched the towel out of my hands and tied my arms behind me.

"Aap pagal ho gaye ho kya?!"

(Have you gone insane?!)

It earned me a sharp slap on my ass, "Agar kabhi kisi ne tumhe utha kar baandh diya, to tum apne aap ko kaise riha karogi?"

(What if someone kidnaps you and ties you up? How will you save yourself?)

I glared at him, "Sirf aap hi yeh sab karenge!"

(Only you'll do such things?)

He hummed and squeezed my face firmly. Bhairav Ji opened my box of sindoor before applying it to my hair parting.

"Meri gilehri ko mere siva kaun yeh sab sikhayega, eh?" He replied, as if tying up your wife was the most normal thing to do.

(Who else but me is going to teach my little squirrel all these things, eh?)

Bhairav Ji pulled me closer, staring into my eyes as his dirty hands kept stroking and squeezing my ass. How was I supposed to free myself while he kept making things hard?

There was a knock on the door at that time, and a man cleared his throat from outside, "Malik?"

I watched my husband's demeanor change as he reluctantly let go of me before pulling the ghoonghat over my face, "Darvaza khula hai."

(The door is open.)

The man pushed the door open, his eyes lowered respectfully. Even though my face was covered, I couldn't exactly hide the way my husband had tied my arms. Even the man looked quite surprised as he glanced between us.

"Aisi kaunsi gambheer baat hai jo tumhe hamare kamre tak le aaya?" Bhairav Ji glared at the man, who immediately joined his hands and stuttered a little.

(What kind of urgent matter led you all the way to my bedroom?)

"M-malik... Malik woh... Baahar... Ek bacha hai..."

(M-malik... Outside... There's a... There's a kid...)

"Bacha?" He frowned, "Kiska bacha?"

(A kid? Whose kid?)

"Hume kuch pata nahi malik. Subah subah Mali ne dekha tha... Kisi ne use haveli ke deewaron se kutte ki tarah bandh daala hai. Lagta hai puri raat woh wahi pada tha, Malik."

(We don't know Malik. The gardener saw him early in the morning... Someone tied him to the haveli's walls like a dog... Looks like he's been out there the entire night, Malik.)

A child? Tied to outside the haveli for the entire night? What was he saying?

"Le chalo mujhe uske paas," Bhairav Ji replied and followed the other man out of our bedroom.

(Take me to the child.)

"Suniye mere haath-!"

(Wait, my hands-!)

He ignored me and went down the stairs.
